The European Public Policy Conference (EPPC)
The conference took place from 31 March 2 April 2023 in Vienna, Austria.
The European Public Policy Conference (EPPC) has been hosted since 2008 by Timothy Reno , founder of the International Policy Leadership Institute (IPLI) Since then, the event has been organized annually by first-year master candidates at the Hertie School. Each year they aim to explore a new area in public policy by bringing together scholars, stakeholders, and students with a variety of perspectives.
We were especially pleased that after three years of COVID-induced interruptions, 2023 EPPC was once again in-person in Vienna at the Central European University, a member of the CIVICA network.
We are currently living in a time of multiple, overlapping crises: the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the war of Russian aggression in Ukraine, the subsequent energy and food security crises, and of course the cascading effects of continued and accelerating global heating and climate change. This has led some analysts to term our current era the “age of permacrisis”, the topic of this year’s conference which hosted around 80 participants.
